The Greater Jackson Financial Empowerment Center is excited to announce a new pilot program connecting eligible clients with free legacy planning legal services through our partnership with West Tennessee Legal Services.
Through this partnership, independent attorneys at West Tennessee Legal Services work one-on-one with eligible FEC clients to provide legal services designed to help individuals and families protect assets, plan for the future, and support the transfer of wealth and property across generations.
Examples of Available Legal Services:
- Last wills and testaments
- Powers of attorney
- Advance directives and living wills
- HIPAA authorizations
- Transfer on Death Deeds (TODDs)
- Probate support
- Assistance clearing or securing property title ("tangled title" support)
How These Services Can Help Legacy Planning
Attorneys can prepare legal documents that help ensure your wishes are documented and that your assets and property can be transferred to your loved ones according to those wishes.
Generational Transfer of Assets
Clients can receive support preserving and transferring family wealth, including assistance with inherited property and resolving title issues that may create barriers to maintaining homeownership or building generational wealth.
Property Title Assistance
Clients currently living in inherited property without clear ownership documentation may receive legal assistance evaluating title issues and, where appropriate, pursuing options to help establish or clarify ownership.
Eligibility
Legal services are available at no cost to eligible clients located within the West Tennessee Legal Services service area, subject to program eligibility and attorney availability. Individuals interested in legacy planning services or experiencing challenges related to inherited property or unclear title are encouraged to meet with an FEC counselor to get connected to this service.
To learn more or get started, schedule an appointment with the FEC here. This opportunity is available for a limited time, so we encourage eligible clients to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
