Trey Cunningham joined the United Way of West Tennessee in February 2025 as a Financial Empowerment Counselor, where he offers one-on-one financial coaching and resource navigation to help individuals and families achieve economic security. His work is grounded in a deep commitment to equity, community development, and sustainable impact.

A native of Haywood County, Trey earned his Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration and Planning from Tennessee State University, graduating early in May 2024. While at TSU, he was deeply involved in campus leadership, serving on the University President’s Communications Action Plan Committee and 83rd SGA Administration’s Representative-at Large for Financial Aid. He has also held key leadership roles in the NAACP such as the Immediate Past President of the TSU NAACP Chapter 5977-B, Middle Tennessee Vice-President of Youth & College, and State Youth Works Committee Member, where he helped strengthen organizational operations, led civic engagement campaigns, and mentored emerging leaders.

In Spring 2022, Trey was initiated into Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, sharpening his skills in strategic planning, and professional leadership. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and remains actively engaged in the healthcare field through his ongoing commitment to leadership, policy analysis, and community health advancement.

Trey previously served as a legislative intern in the Tennessee General Assembly for Senator Joey Hensley, M.D., gaining first-hand experience in public policy, legislative research, and constituent services. He is also a proud member of the Tennessee State University National Alumni Association, and continues to advocate for education, youth empowerment, and public service.

Outside of his professional role, Trey serves on the Feonix Mobility Rising Leadership Council, the Save the Children Leadership Roundtable, and is an active member of Rotary International – Haywood County, reflecting his deep dedication to servant leadership and cross-sector collaboration.
